lei pikaki


The rain and heat have given me a bumper crop of pikaki blooms. Two days worth was enough to make a single strand. I wish I could post the scent ,so fragrant and beguiling that dozens of songs have been written about it. Pikaki is the traditional lei for lovers and weddings.

I can smell them! :) I vaguely remember hair twirled in a bun and putting those flowers into it with hairpins. We call them kembang melati. Thanks for sharing the beautiful picture.

I still have some pikake perfume from Hawaii. I LOVE that smell. You are so lucky to have them growing in your yard!
